Session Objectives:

This Session on Nutrition and Metabolic Surgery aims to present to our participants the various roles of nutritional support and surgical intervention in relation to the current guidelines on the  indications in the treatment of metabolic diseases related to obesity as a disease.  To understand the mechanism of Sleeve Gastrectomy as a surgical treatment of diabetes mellitus


Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the session, the participants should be able to:

  1. 1. Discuss the role of nutritional support in the surgical management of obesity

  2. 2. Explain the current guidelines and indications for Metabolic and bariatric surgery,

  3. 3. Describe the mechanism behind the role of surgery in the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  4. 4. Describe the different mechanisms of sleeve gastrectomy involved in improvement of diabetes.

  5. 5. Describe the technical details of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy

  6. 6. Analyze the potential benefits, risks, and complications associated with sleeve gastrectomy

  7. 7. Learn about the long-term outcomes and follow up care for patients who undergo sleeve gastrectomy
